And yet, despite this growing number, there are still perpetuated stereotypes in the media that seems to follow the LGBTQ community everywhere. Stereotypes come in many forms: negative representation, token representation, queerbaiting, and retroactive representation.

This is a topic that is especially important to address right now as recent news and policy changes brought about by the new administration have left most of those in the community feeling incredibly vulnerable and in fear.

Some LGBTQ members simply do not understand the trans community or have false mediae of the trans community that they learned from popular media. Whatever the solution to this problem is, it may be a long time before we see some substantial change in the way the media portrays the community, but at the very least, it seems like the media is moving towards a slightly more accepting space for the LGBT community.

One of the best examples of this is the the transgender community and the prejudiced they face, not only from those queer of the LGBTQ community, but also within it as well. Whether or the current political scene will change that has yet to be seen, but many hold out hope that the current trend will continue into the future.
